VideoSkins Review – Should You Buy It?

VideoSkins Review

This Product Is No Longer Available

VideoSkins is a SaaS tool that will allow you to easily build, customize and manage your very own video players, from an impressive web-based drag ‘n drop player builder. (Software as a Service (SaaS) is a software distribution model in which applications are hosted by a vendor or service provider and made available to customers over a network, typically the Internet.)

It launched a while back, but now I’ve had a chance to test it myself, so now I’m able to review it honestly.

According to its creator Sam Bakker, VideoSkins is the only software of its kind and not only will it allow you to host videos in one easy to use dashboard, but it’s going to give you an edge over your competition with its advance “On Video” call to action technology.

First,  the claim that the software is entirely unique is not entirely true. Video skins, which are any type of functionality that shows over a video have been around for some time.  In fact I’ve been using various plugins of this type for several years. But hey, he’s a marketer so I expect the use of hyperbole!

Video Skins Quick Summary

VideoSkins ReviewWith Video Skins users can create their own branded video player quickly.  The software is easy to use and efficient at creating beautifully designed ready-to-go video “skins” (templates), that can be edited and customized. Simply pick your functionality ( optin form, payment button, social media sharing, etc.) and drag-n-drop.

As video has evolved and become the mainstream method of marketing, more and more “video skin” software is flooding the market. Again, in this respect, VideoSkins is not new.

However, for marketers currently using video or those thinking about starting, VideoSkins has a full complement of features that have been proven to increase engagement, increase leads and boost traffic. This is especially important if you post video to your blogs.

Each item is fully customizable:

  • Play Buttons
  • Playback Bars
  • Social Icons
  • Opt-in Forms
  • PayPal Buttons
  • Call-to-Action Buttons
  • Countdown Timers
  • Custom Images
  • Custom Text
  • Animations
  • & Much More

… Again, all made available inside the video by simple dragging and dropping the component onto the video player.

But do video skins increase visitors, lead and sales?

On traditional landing pages, the call-to-action represents the tipping point between bounce and conversion. When you ask someone to do something online, they have to go through your call-to-action in order to do it – regardless of whether you’re asking them to download a PDF, fill out a form, buy a product, or even just click through to another page. The same can be achieved with videos using the VideoSkins technology.

According to Rocky Walls, CEO of 12 Stars Media Productions, who has more than 10 years experience in digital content creation; No Call-To-Action is mistake #4 most people make when embedding videos on a blog.

“Once you’ve written a nice post that includes a customized embedded video, it’s important to give the reader a call to action at the end. If the reader asks themselves “so what?” after viewing your post and video, you’ve not only wasted their time but your own as well. The end of a blog post is a good place for an opt-in, like a newsletter sign-up form or a “Like us on Facebook” button. You can even refer to your call-to-action right in your video.”

Call  To Action In Videos Works – Case Studies

In my investigation preparing for this review I wanted to find clear evidence that in fact video skins make a difference when it comes to conversions. A quick Google search led me to the website of  Viewbix, advertised as “By Far The Most Powerful Tool To Improve Your Video Advertising Performance!”

The company basically wraps videos in a custom player, so if you’re an advertiser, the player can include your branding, as well as the ability to collect contact information and more.

Cuisinart uses video skins…

Below is an example of a Cuisinart YouTube video that’s been wrapped in a Cuisinart-branded player. The player includes buttons for following Cuisinart on Facebook, for signing up for the company’s email list and for buying the product in question.

That means consumers can take direct action on an ad right while the message is fresh. Plus, there’s detailed analytics data about who’s watching the video and interacting with the player.

As does… CBS Television Distributors of “The Dr. Phil Show”

The “Dr. Phil” team customized their promotional messaging to drive participant signups within the same screen. Through its ability to increase viewer engagement with interactive video ads, Viewbix is able to connect and engage with viewers in far more valuable ways than a simple view. Utilizing banners, in-video player sign-up forms, and customized branding, “Dr. Phil” found it easy to boost engagement and—most importantly—their video’s ROI.

Here’s a short demo of the “DEMO” I made using VideoSkins

The four options I found the best are the optin form (any chance to collect a lead is always a good thing), the countdown timer (scarcity sells its just that simple), the social features (social exposure is always a good thing) and the clickable buttons.

In addition to these video functions Video Skins also has built in stat tracking. This tracking is easy to follow professional quality and very detailed.

In all honesty, VideoSkins is not the first of this kind of software, there have been others, and candidly if you already have a software like this then you might not need Video Skins. However if you do not have one, if you have a website or have clients with a website, then video skins is going to be a tool worth considering. It’s not perfect and there are some areas that could be improved, but it is a viable tool for anyone using video to market their product or service.
